Charles Bierbauer draws his interests in media, politics and education together as Dean of the College of Mass Communications and Information Studies at the University of South Carolina. The views here are his own, not those of the university. He is a former CNN political correspondent and currently is a consultant and senior contributing editor for SCHotline.com.

Hi -- I'm a journalist from Australia travelling to the US for the primary/caucus season and hoping to contact Mr Bierbauer with an eye to a possible interview.

We're making a documentary film on the US Presidential election process and the role of the media.

Regards,

Mark:
Solid investigative journalism is much needed universally. Unfortunately, investigative journalists are often sacrificed when news organizations hew to their bottom line. We need to investigate that.

On the plus side, our School of Journalism and Mass Communications administers the annual Taylor-Tomlin Award for Investigative Journalism which recognizes the work done by South Carolina journalists who have made a difference through their reporting.

Encourage your local media to engage in this kind of work.

Charles B. was a very good CNN correspondent but if he really wants to make a difference as a journalism leader in this state,he might want to address the lack of investigative journalism on our corrupt political fundraisers and how certain lawyers and developers are having too much influence as to who can get financial support.Oprah does a fine job as a fundraiser, too but she can't do much about our sleazy politicians. While tv news does a poor job of covering politics here, newspapers like the State are not that much better.
